The Volta Regional Minister, Dr Archibald Letsa has pledged government’s commitment towards revamping industries in the region.
The Volta Stars Textile Limited, the Akule Shoe Factory, and Sokode Biscuit Factory are among the industries marked resuscitation.
The once vibrant companies, unfortunately, are currently operating at their lowest largely due to financial challenges and other logistical challenges.
In an interaction with Journalists and the Volta Regional Chapter of the Association of Ghana Industries (AGI) on Thursday, the Regional Minister indicated his resolve to work with these industries after their challenges were brought to the bear by Executives of the Volta Regional Chapter of the GJA.
Speaking on the challenges facing one such industry, the Volta Star Textiles Limited, the Minister said a stimulus package is being prepared for the company.
The company has been facing dire financial crises for some time now.
He also commented on the Akuley Shoe Factory, one of Ghana’s indigenous and biggest shoe factories situated in the Kpando Municipality.
That factory too is in dire need of financial support to come back to life.
The Minister urged managers of the company to put together a business plan to get the business up and running again.
The factory, known for its quality football boots, bags, and leather shoes.
It folded up in 2008 due to financial stress and is now a pale shadow of its former self.
The Volta Regional GJA chairman, Kafui Kanyi, lamented how the Ho Light Industrial area has been abandoned and the place taken over by churches and intruders.
According to him, the situation is worrying as similar industries are left to rot with no help from industry players to boost their businesses.
The only vibrant and surviving company in the Light Industrial Area, GAD Furniture, is also at the verge of collapse as the local assemblies and the Volta Region Coordinating Council (VRCC) do not patronise the company’s products, although they are of high quality.
Two weeks ago the Volta Regional GJA executives visited some local companies to see how the GJA and the AGI could partner with them for a revamp of their businesses.
The AGI and GJA recently organized the maiden Volta GJA/AGI Awards to reward hardworking Journalists in the region.
