7 prisoners freed, one officer dead as gun men attack Kwabenya Police Station

  • 6 suspected armed men have attacked the Atomic Hills Police Station in Kwabenya in Accra

  • One Police officer was shot dead in the process 

  • Seven prisoners were freed in the by the armed men

Some unknown armed men have allegedly attacked the Atomic Hills Police Station with guns, killing one police inspector in the process.
Adom News’ Kofi Kofi Adjei reports that the men, number six and led by a man suspected to be Nigerian national, also succeeded in freeing some seven inmates who were being held at the police station for armed robbery offences.

On getting to the station, the leader of the armed men approached the counter unarmed and told the Counter NCO that he wanted to lodge a complaint but in the process, excused the NCO that he was going for something in his car.
The suspect later returned with five armed men and shot Insp. Emmanuel Asilevi who was on duty at the charge office before forcing the Counter NCO to open the cells where they allegedly succeeded in freeing seven Nigerians who were being held for various armed robbery offences.

Insp. Asilevi was rushed to the Police Hospital for treatment and was later referred to 37 Military Hospital where he was confirmed dead on arrival.
The names of the remand inmates of the cell who were freed have been given as Dickson Ofori, Chubuzor Chubuzor, Edem Rockson, Emmanuel Kotey, Prince Osei, Kofi Darko and Atta Kwadwo.
