Officers of the Ghana Police Service in Tamale in the Northern region escaped death when they were attacked at Gbulahagu on Sunday on January 7, 2018.
This followed an attack on a 35-year-old woman identified as Memunatu Neindoow on the allegations that she was a witch.
Narrating the incident to Adom News, the Northern Regional Police spokesperson, ASP Mohammed Yussif Tanko said the police got information and dispatched a team to the village and rescue the victim.
He said on arrival, the police met the victim in a burnt thatch house with bruises but when they attempted to take her out of the vicinity, unidentified people started firing gunshots and throwing of stones at them.
In their attempt to escape, ASP Tanko said the residents blocked the road with wood and stones; firing at their vehicle so the police officers had to abandon their car and run for their lives.
He said they they begun investigation to bring the culprits to book.
