Technical Director of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Francis Oti Akenten has revealed that Wa All Stars lacked the needed match fitness to stand the strength of Ahli Tripoli.
“The main reason for Wa All Stars’ defeat was their lack of match fitness. The team was rusty. It was obvious the players were not fit for the game. They were not ready physically for the match. On the day, the Libyans displayed a high level of physical fitness. They were stronger and much prepared for the game”, Oti said on Asempa FM.
“Most of the players in the Ahli team are part of their senior national team. Hence the team is very strong. I watched an All Stars friendly against Tamale-based Liberty Professionals and it was obvious the former was not fit, so I advised Coach Enos Adepah to work on the team’s fitness”, he revealed.
Oti Akenten urged all not to single out anyone for the poor performance displayed by the two clubs representing Ghana at this year’s CAF championships.
“We should not single out anyone for the poor performance put up by our two clubs participating in this year’s Africa Cup campaign. The FA, PLB, GHALCA and all the stakeholders must put their ideas together to help improve our game”, he added.
On whether the two clubs stand any chance of qualifying for the next stage of the competition, Oti Akenten minced no words by admitting that, it will be difficult for Wa All Stars to make it but Bechem United who won their game against MC Algiers, can qualify if they take their chances.
