General Secretary of the Ghana Football Coaches Association (GFCA), Lawyer George Quayson, has disclosed that the association has proposed “One Region, One Soccer Academy ” to government to enable the developmnent of grassroot football.
The GFCA held their first ever congress at the Ghana Football Association’s Secretariat last Saturday, bringing together all trainers in the country.
The objectives of the Association include training, grading, examining, licensing, promoting and classifying all coaches throughout the country with the cooperation of the GFA.
The association also aims at initiating legal proceedings for and on behalf of a member to improve the status of coaches and the standard of coaching by initiating and encouraging the education and spirit of sound coaching among members.
The association will advise, guide and protect all registered football coaches in Ghana from injustice and unfair treatment arising from their employment and service arising from directly or indirectly from the performance of their duties as coaches within any organized football entity whatsoever.
In an interview on Asempa FM’s Ultimate Sports Show, Lawyer Quayson mentioned that “we are proposing to the government to also give us One Region, One Soccer Academy”.
He further stated that, as an association, they wouldn’t mind if government decides to cater for the players who would come out of the academies and then take all the profit at the end.
According to the FIFA licensed ‘A’ Coach, ‘there are a lot of players who just need opportunities to show what they have got’.
The event held in the capital, sought to create a platform for local coaches to share ideas and look at the longevity of the body.
