Vice President Mahamadu Bawumia has paid a visit to the Kumasi Academy in the Ashanti Region following the health crisis in the school that has claimed four lives in the last week.
The Vice President expressed the government’s “heartfelt sympathies and condolences to the families, teachers, students and friends of Kumasi Academy Senior High School who have been affected by the H1N1 Influenza virus.”
‘’On behalf of President Akufo-Addo said, “my heart goes out to the families of the 4 promising students who have lost their lives through the outbreak of the swine flu’, Dr Mahamadu Bawumia said.
Addressing students, parents and a section of the media, Dr. Mahamadu Bawumia called for support from all stakeholders especially with parents and guardians as he says enough drugs and vaccination have arrived to deal with the disease. He, however, called on students not to take the treatment for granted as the disease is very infectious.
According to the Vice President, the Nana Addo led NPP government stands with the bereaved families as he promises to support them.
The Vice President was accompanied by the Health Minister Hon. Kwaku Agyeman Manu, Ashanti Regional minister Simon Osei Mensah and the Asokore Mampong Municipal chief executive Hon. Alidu Seidu as well as other dignitaries.
‘Government is with you and I can assure that the problem has been identified and we will deal with and very soon this mystery will be a thing of the past’ he emphasized.
Meanwhile, the Ashanti Regional Minister Hon Simon Osei Mensah has on behalf of the government and Ashanti Regional coordinating council donated an amount of GH5000 cedis each to four (4) families who lost their children in the KUMACA crisis and also pledges his support to the school and parents to end the problem.
