The six kindergarten pupils who were killed by a collapsing school building in Breman Jamera in the Odoben-Brakwa District of the Central Region would be laid to rest today.
The six were part of a group of KG pupils who were sitting behind their classroom at break time when the building collapsed on them.
A teacher in the school, Ms. Martha Boadiwaa told Adom FM’s Alfred Amoh that the structure had developed deep cracks but it was not given the needed attention resulting in the collapse.
But the District Education Coordinating Director said he had already ordered the demolition of the building after he realized it was in a dangerous state.
This claim has been disputed but some youth of the town mobilized and went to pull down the building at the Breman Jamera Methodist Primary yesterday.
An Assemblyman in the District, Agyin Kwakye Ishmael confirmed the burial on Adom FM’s Morning Show, ‘Dwaso Nsem’ Thursday.
Meanwhile, the Education Minister, Mathew Opoku Prempeh visited the town with a team from the Ministry and the Ghana Education Service (GES).
He said on the show that the government will pay the hospital bills of the injured pupils and also that of the funeral.
The Minister confirmed that a new classroom block was under construction for the KG and primary departments and was expected to be completed in about two months’ time.
