The National Council of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has resolved that Metropolitan, Municipal and District Chief Executives who have the interest of contesting as Members of Parliament should forfeit their position before the General Elections.
The decision, the General Secretary of the party, John Boadu said on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen was adopted by the National Council to resolve the issues that come with the struggle for power during internal elections in the party.
“We have resolved that all MMDCEs with the ambition to become Members of Parliament should resign from the positions…,” he said.
The party, he said, has given a deadline of December 6, 2017 for all the MMDCEs with parliamentary ambitions to resign.
Regional Chairperson of the party, secretaries who fail to also resign by the said date will not be eligible to contest to become MPs.
John Boadu however stated that the rule does not apply to executives of the party in areas where the party does not enjoy massive support.
