The Deputy Youth and Sports Minister,Hon.Pius Enam Hadzide, says the ministry will do all it can to resolve the fracas between the Ghana Athletics Association (GAA)and Ghana’s Youth Olympic medalist, Martha Bissah.
Martha was handed a long term ban by the GAA earlier in 2017 preventing her from competing in any event under the Ghanaian flag and according to reports, Bissah is contemplating on switching nationality if the ban is not lifted.
However, the Hon. Minister is positive that the Norfolk State University’s Female Athlete of the Year ,will continue to compete for Ghana.
“The issue between Martha Bissah and the Athletics Association have come to the attention of the ministry and we are taking steps to ensure that we arrive at a peaceful resolution”.
“We will do all we can to ensure that Martha Bissah continues to compete for and on behalf of Ghana”.
“Personally, I have met the Ghana Athletics Association executive board, president of the association and they have been very corporative”.
“Therefore we are very confident that Martha will not switch nationality this year or any other year. We are ready to resolve this matter and she will continue to compete for mother Ghana anytime the opportunity comes”.
She is the MEAC’s top-ranked runner in both the 800 and 1,500 meters thus far.
