Minority Chief Whip, Alhaji Muntaka Mubarak has stated unequivocally that he never gave Bawku Central Member of Parliament, Mahama Ayariga as bribe.
According to him, he is still yet to come to terms with the reasons why Mr. Ayariga would concoct such a story.
“I am saying this with a lot of difficult when you are in a leadership; I am a Muslim I am swearing by Allah I have never gave Ayariga anything” he fumed.
Mr Ayariga has alleged on an Accra-based Radio Gold that he was told Mr. Agyarko had offered GH¢100,000 to the Appointments Committee.
He said each member of the Committee was offered GH¢3,000, but when they were told of the giver of the money the minority members returned it.
According to him, they received the money thinking it was payment of their sitting allowance, only to be told by the Minority Chief Whip that the money was coming from Boakye Agyarko. They therefore had to return the money, he disclosed in an interview on Radio Gold.
But Muntaka Mubarak on Joy FM/MultiTV’s news analysis programme Newsfile Saturday denied ever giving the Bawku Central MP money.
He maintained that, he never recieved any money from the Joe Osei-Wusu as bribe from the Energy Minister-designate to influence Committee members especially on the Minority side.
The Asawase MP could not fathom why Mahama Ayariga would make such allegation when in fact the Minority agreed in a meeting not to accept any money from any nominee who appear before the Committee.
“Joe Osei-Wusu has never discussed any money with me and all that I will say is that we are in leadership. We agreed at a meeting that we are not going to take a dime from anybody – I am saying Ayariga never spoke the truth, I never gave him money from Osei Owusu” he stated.
Muntaka Mubarak vowed to haul the MP to the appropriate quarters for the matter to be resolved.
