There was drama in parliament today when the Member of Parliament for Tarkwa-Nsuaem, George Mireku Duker pulled out a gas cylinder from under his chair to show as exhibit during debate on the 2018 budget.
Adom News Parliamentary Correspondent Abednego Asante reports that George Mireku Duker used the cylinder to make a case for government’s cylinder re-circulation program soon to roll out.
Deputy Minority leader, James Klutse Avedzi protested the action of the MP arguing the cylinder is an “offensive weapon”.
He pleaded with the 1st deputy speaker, Joseph Osei-Owusu for the device to be removed from the chamber.
In spite of protest from majority leader, Osei Kyei Mensah-Bonsu arguing the cylinder was without gas, the speaker ruled the cylinder even without gas can serve as a weapon.
He queried why the marshals in Parliament allowed the MP to carry the device into the chamber.
Joseph Osei-Owusu consequently ordered for the gas cylinder to be removed from the chamber.
