Police officer jailed for theft

The Bole magistrate court presided over by his Lordship,  Prince Kudjoe has sentenced a 31-year-old police officer, Lance Corporal Abu Mejida with service number 47607 to 12 months imprisonment for theft.
The Bole district Magistrate Court charged Abu Mejida for two offenses, thus unlawful entering into a shop and for stealing items meant for sale.
According to the court, Mr Abu Mejida broke into Mohammed Mahama’s provisions shop in Bole and bolted away with GH₵ 900.00 together with a mobile phone.
Abu Mejida pleaded guilty to the court.
The Magistrate judge in his sentences said: “I thought the police are there to protect and arrest criminals, but that is not what we are seeing. Rather the civilians are the ones arresting police…”
He continued that, “if that is what is now happening then I don’t know where we are heading towards in this country”.
Mr Abu Mejida’s was sentenced to 12 months imprisonment with hard labour at WA prison.
