Nurses at the Ankaful Psychiatric hospital in the Central region have rejected an apology from their Director Dr Eugene K Dordoye.
According to them, the apology is an insult to their intelligence which will only add insult to injury.
Psychiatric Nurses Group (PNG) at Ankaful have been in the news in recent weeks with a petition to the ministry of Health to remove the medical director of the facility due to a number of allegations leveled against him including misappropriation of funds and poor human relations with staff.
The staff have abandoned inmates as they begun a sit down strike on Thursday, 23rd November, 2017.
A delegation was sent from the sector ministry to the facility to resolve the growing impasse.
But in a four-paged letter containing an unreserved apology from Dr. Dordoye nonetheless reserved some portions to chronicle several acts of indiscipline by some nurses.
He explained that in his disciplinary zeal, he may have “gone overboard” as his measures appear not to have gone down well with the workers hence the strike.
But the apology has injected fresh zeal into the strike as it enters day two.
However, spokesperson for the group, Emmanuel Ofori said “The way the staff became angry after reading the said apology letter, it was just surprising” he said on Accra based Neat FM.
According to him, the staff were not copied in the apology letter sent to the Central Regional minister Kwamina Duncan and the CEO of the Mental Health Authority Dr. Akwasi Osei.
Mr Ofori indicated that the group would not and cannot accept an apology and a promise of good relations from Dr. Dordoye unless he is transferred to a different hospital.
He noted that after enduring the one-year leadership of Dr. Eugene Dordoye, they can no longer work with him.
