Ashanti Regional Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Yaw Obimpeh has described vigilante group within the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Delta Forces as a ‘terrorist’ organisation.
The group, he said are sowing the seeds of terrorism’ in the country through their actions and inactions in the country in recent times.
The group, he said, have been part of a group of youth that have been offered various training to equip them in mortal combat.
“Nana Akufo-Addo and Bawumia are behind this attack. They have allowed some big wigs in the party to train these youth to attack other people like terrorists and that is what we are seeing now. Their aim is to torment us,” he said on Adom FM’s Morning Show “Dwaso Nsem” Friday.
His comments is in reaction to news of 13 members of the group escaping from lawful custody after they were sentenced by a Kumasi Circuit Court.
The 13, who were remanded into prison custody and billed to reappear on 20 April, were whisked away through the backdoor of the judge’s chamber by their supporters.
The IGP, in a press release on Thursday April 6, stated: “We had police officers at the court and we had about 20 officers on standby, but if you remember we gave the accused persons [police] bail when they were suspects and they willingly appeared before the court, so you can imagine that the extent of danger or likelihood of they escaping was not as high as we will believe.”
But Mr Obimpeh called on the Police to immediately put in place right measures to forestall any misconduct.
