After just one match, Ghana defender Baba Abdul-Rahman has bid farewell to the Africa Cup of Nations because of an injury.
The Black Stars defender sustained the injury in the first half of the Group D opener against Uganda in Port-Gentil and will be treated in Germany.
“He will travel to Germany…to undergo further tests and possible surgery over a knee injury he suffered at the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations in Gabon. Ghana Football Association (GFA) took the decision in consultation with his club Schalke after tests were carried out on the injury in the Gabonese capital of Libreville on Wednesday.,” said an official Ghana FA statement.
“The Ghana medical team led by Dr. Adam Baba revealed that the defender suffered ‘a rupture of the meniscus and a particular tear of the anterior cruciate ligament with fluid collection in the left knee.’ A Ghana team official will accompany the defender on the journey to Germany…”
“With no MRI facilities in Port Gentil, the Black Stars player had to travel to Libreville for the tests to be carried out before the full extent of injury was determined.”
Ghana won 1-0 and will likely field Frank Acheampong in that left back position on Saturday in their next game against Mali.
