Board member and National Chapters Committee chairman of football club, Accra Hearts of Oak has bemoaned the dwindling fortunes of the once vibrant side.
But, the development, Barima Atuahene stressed is not surprising because the club has lost its spiritual covering.
Speaking on Asempa FM’s Ultimate Sports show on the club’s 106 birthday, the ardent Hearts of Oak supporter said the tree which represents the spirit of the club is “dead”.
“The Oak tree is dead. There is no spiritual protection and backing for the club. The council of patrons need to tell us if they have lost interest in the club so we take over our club” he bemoaned.
Accra Hearts of oak since 2009 has failed to win any laurel and have not had the best of performances for a club that attains 106 years on November 11, 2017.
This Mr. Atuahene believes is as a result of the weak spiritual foundation of the club.
The problems in the club among other things he stressed is giving more power to just one person to take decision.
The bane of Hearts of Oak now, Mr. Atuahene said is the decision to list the club on the Ghana Stock Exchange which he claimed indirectly drove most of the supporters away.
“Leaving the club to one person after the flotation of shares is not the way of managing our great club. There must be a change” he added.
Hearts of Oak finished third in the 2016/2017 premier league season and also runners up of the MTN FA Cup but the only way to return to their past glory, Barima Atuahene stated is to for the current management to go back to their history.
