NDC’s 'abonkele' unity walk not a threat to NPP – Minister

The Central Regional Minister, Kwamena Duncan says the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) is resolute in the region following a unity walk organized by the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) which pulled large crowd.
According to him, majority of the people who graced the occasion was bused from other regions to create the impression that they are still relevant in Ghana’s body politic.
Former President John Mahama on Sunday November 5, 2017 led a third unity walk organized by the party in the Central region.
The event was to engender solidarity by an ego-bruising defeat in the December 7 general elections.
But given the number of people who throng the venue to listen to the former President, some political pundits are predicting things could change ahead of the 2020 elections.
But Kwamena Duncan on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen programme Monday stressed the NDC is no match for them in the region.
He indicated that, given the unprecedented achievement of the Akufo-Addo government in less than one year in office, the NDC cannot be an alternative.
At best, he noted that, the opposition party is just trying to appease its grassroot members who are still angry of the neglect when the party was in power.
The Central Regional Minister also bemoaned how the NDC Regional Chairman, Bernard Allotey Jacobs and many leading members of the party were sidelined in the supposed unity walk.
Kwamena Duncan maintained that, the NPP is focused on delivering on all its promises to Ghanaians.
But in a rebuttal, the Central Regional NDC Chairman described as false the claims by the Central Regional Minister.
He noted that the huge turnout for the unity walk is an attestation that the people have lost confidence in the Akufo-Addo government.
“Our unity walk has sent shivers down the spine of the NPP. NDC is back to baton and I’m fully in charge” he stressed.
Allotey Jacobs urged the NPP to prepare adequately for the fight ahead because ‘we will give them a run for their money in 2020′.
