New Patriotic Party (NPP) Karaga Constituency Chairman, Tahiru Zakaria and three others have been arrested for their involvement in violence that rocked the area.
They were arrested on their way to Karaga on Friday evening.
Their arrest follows an earlier official complaint filed by the embattled Karaga District Chief Executive, Alhassan Yabdow, who was chased out of his office in Karaga by some irate youth of the ruling New Patriotic Party.
The three other suspects are Baba Ali Osman, Mohammed Alhassan and Abdullai Ziblim.
The suspects according to the Northern Regional Police Spokesperson ASP Mohammed Yussif Tanko are to assist in investigation into the recent political turmoil in the constituency.
“They were arrested on their way to Karaga this evening and brought back to Tamale. The chairman had earlier refused to honour an invitation from the Regional Police Command to assist in police investigations. They are currently in custody” he said.
Reports indicate that law enforcement agencies have since been stationed in Karaga and its adjoining communities to maintain law and order.
Meanwhile the angry youth in Karaga have threatened to take the law in their own hands to vandalize properties in the district if police refused to release the chairman and the other executives.
President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo has reiterated the need for security agencies to deal with law breakers regardless of their political status.
