The Greater Accra Regional Chairman, Ishmael Ashitey has expressed disgust at the ‘enstoolment’ of two Ga Mantses in the capital city, in a space of one week.
According to him, the seeming breakdown of law and order is painting a bad picture of the Ga state which houses the capital, Accra.
The rumpus over the enstoolment of a Ga Mantse continues unabated, as key and influential members of the various royal families and interest groups stake their claim.
An event to introduce Nii Tackie Oblie II as another claimant to the Stool was disrupted by some angry youth in Accra on Wednesday October 25, 2017 which came barely three days after a new Ga Mantse had been inducted into the Ga Traditional Council.
The Abola Piam king makers indicated that Nii Obli was the legitimate chief of the Ga State, thereby nullifying the reign of the late King Tackie Tawiah II, known in private life as Dr Jo Blankson, and the current Ga Mantse, Boni Nii Tackie Adama Latse II.
Ayittey Canada (now deceased) and Dr Kelvin Tackie Abia also laid claim to the stool.
According to Nii Okai Osiahene IV, the Stool Father of the Abola Piam We, their action was precipitated by the fact that they represented the right house to nominate and install a chief for the Ga State after the demise of Nii Amugi, a right which he said was usurped by the Nii Teiko Tsuru We.
But for the intervention of the police, supporters of Nii Oblie and some youth of Ga Mashie would have engaged in a bloody fight.
But on Adom FM’s Dwaso Nsem Thursday, Ishmael Ashitey expressed disappointment in the kingmakers of the Ga state.
He could not fathom why after years of chieftaincy dispute, elders in the Ga have not been to install a Ga Mantse.
To prevent any confusion, he stated that President Akufo-Addo will not pay homage to all claimants of the Ga stool.
