Ayensu Starch factory begins production

-

Ghana’s only starch producing company which was shutdown for maintenance has begun production.

Managing Director of the company, Evans Kwame Ayim confirmed this to Adom News Sunday when Members of Parliament in the area, Robert Ahomka-Lindsey and Nenyi George Andah visited the facility.

The company established in 2002 has shut down several times for many reasons including raw material and fuel.

Ayensu Starch Factory is currently not in operation because its drier section developed a fault after the company had been in operation for less than three weeks.

Farmers who have cassava have however been turned away with several tones of cassava left to rot because the starch factory is not in operation.

Farmers took to the media lamenting they have not been paid for the cassava they have supplied, while several cassava remains on their farms.

But factory manager said when the factory comes back to stream, farmers will be called to bring their cassava.

He indicated that 230 tones is expected to be processed and suppliers will be paid their full.

For his part, Mr. Ahomka-Lindsey who is also the deputy Trade Minister assured of total support to ensure the factory works.

He also encourage the workers to work hard to support the management to  lift the factory from the current situation to better position.
