The First Lady, Mrs Rebecca Akufo-Addo, has pledged her dedication, commitment and presence to ensure that issues pertaining to women were given the needed attention.
Addressing queenmothers from the Eastern Region at her office in Accra yesterday, Mrs Akufo-Addo assured the queenmothers that she would work with them for the good of their various communities.
The queenmothers were at the office of the First Lady to channel some of their pressing needs in the region for solutions. They also used the occasion to congratulate the President for being elected to the highest office of the land.
Mrs Akufo-Addo reiterated that President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo was committed to making life better for Ghanaians and would, therefore, not renege on his campaign promise.
She noted that the country abounded in treasures and the only way to make them beneficial to all was to have a good leader who would utilise the resources for the benefit of the people
Working together
The President of the Eastern Regional Queenmothers Association, Okyenhemaa, Nana Adutwumwaa Dokua, who is also the Akyem Abuakwa Paramount Queenmother, commended the First Lady for ably supporting Nana Akofo-Addo to ascend to the Presidency.
Being queenmothers from the Eastern Region, where the President also hails from, the Okyenhemaa said, they would work assiduously to ensure that the government did not fail in its mandate, especially in the region.
The Minister of Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs, Mr Kofi Dzamesi, who was also present at the meeting, assured the queenmothers of the government’s readiness to work with them and the chiefs in the country.
He said the ministry was considering a proposal placed before the President by some Paramount Chiefs who paid a courtesy call on the President recently, and assured them that they would be implementing some of the ideas that emanated from that meeting soon.
The queenmothers also presented a gift to the First Lady.
The meeting was also attended by the various zonal women organisers of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and their deputies who the First Lady thanked for helping the party to win more than 50 per cent of votes cast in the region.
