One out of three masked armed robbers who allegedly attacked a house at Baatsonaa Kotobabi near Spintex in Accra, has reportedly been killed by his colleague in a shootout.
The deceased, yet to be identified, was allegedly struggling with one of the victims of the attack when his colleague, in a desperate attempt to shoot the victim, shot his friend.
The armed robber died on the spot before the police arrived at the scene.
The police have since mounted a search for the two other suspected armed robbers.
Confirming the story to DAILY GUIDE, ASP Effia Tenge, Accra Regional Police Public Relations Officer, said the incident occurred at about 1am on November 30, 2016 at a house at Baatsona Kotobabi.
The three armed robbers, she said, wearing masks and armed with a pump action gun, first attacked a house in the neighborhood and after robbing the occupants of their items, moved to another house which was being occupied by a family of four.
One of the armed men stood outside to keep watch while two others, including the deceased person, went inside the room to demand for money and other valuables from the victims.
After collecting their mobile phones, one of the two armed robbers came out, leaving his colleague inside the room with the victims.
According to ASP Tenge, upon hearing the siren of the police vehicle, the two attempted to escape but one of the victims pounced on him inside the room and attempted to disarm him.
In the process, one of his colleagues came inside the room and in his bid to shoot the victim to free his colleague, the bullets rather hit the armed robber in the head, killing him instantly.
Upon realizing that he had shot his own colleague, the suspect joined his other friend outside to escape, leaving behind their dead partner-in-crime.
The police later entered the house to pick the body of the murdered armed robber to the Police Hospital for preservation.
The matter is still being investigated by the police.
