Former Ghana international Mohammed Polo has lashed out at Black Stars coach Avram Grant, calling the Israeli a “disappointment”.
The former Chelsea boss is facing criticisms following a string of poor performances in recent times.
The Black Stars are yet to pick a win in five games, the latest setback being a 2-0 defeat to Egypt in the 2018 Fifa World Cup qualifiers two weeks ago.
“Avram Grant is a disappointment to Ghana football and if he cannot qualify us to the World Cup, then it’s a shame for us, especially his employers,” Polo told Peace FM.
“Even a local coach [Kwesi Appiah] was able to qualify us to the World Cup [in 2014].
“Per the money he is taking from Ghana, if he is not able to qualify us to the World Cup, then what is the basis of employing a foreign coach, [a move] which comes with a [lot of] cost to this nation?
“Avram Grant has not done anything new to transform Ghanaian football.
“He has been wasteful to Ghana since taking over from Kwesi Appiah. He has not developed any talent.”
Grant took over as Ghana coach in December 2014, guiding the Black Stars to the final of the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations two months later.
“His main purpose was to come in and help develop talent, but what do we see since he took over?
“The coach does not even stay and monitor our home-based players and with his attitude, how can we get a strong replacement for the Black Stars’ players?
“I believe after his contract with Ghana, Avram Grant must go.”
Ghana are second from bottom in Group E of the 2018 African World Cup qualifying, five points adrift of leaders Egypt.
Grant’s contract with the Ghana Football Association expires after the 2017 Afcon in February.
