Only 15% households in Ghana have toilet facility

Chief Environment and Health Technologist at the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development, Kwaku Quansah, has revealed that only 15% of households in Ghana have toilet facility.

According to him this has contributed to the higher number of sanitation related ailments like cholera over the years.

He added that introduction of the National Sanitation Day campaign in 2014 has helped control the outbreak of cholera since then but until Ghanaians take the issue of sanitation seriously, there will be serious consequences for our health.

He disclosed this at the launch of this year’s World Toilet Day in Accra.

Kwaku Quansah, says the Greater Accra Metropolitan area Water and Sanitation Project, will assist all landlords to own toilets in their homes by giving them 50% support of materials and money to construct the toilet facilities in their homes.
