When the Eelctoral Commission (EC) announced that the flagbearer of the Progressive People’s Party (PPP), Dr Papa Kwesi Nduom’s nomination forms had finally been accepted and that he was fit to contest the 2016 elections, the man and his campaign team decided to celebrate the victory.

At a coded location in Tamale, the campaign team led by Dr Nduom decided to pop champagne to celebrate the victory over the EC.

Dr Nduom was part of the 12 presidential hopefuls who were initially disqualified by the commission for failing to fill correctly their nomantion forms.

Not satisfied with this decision, the business magnate and his political party filed a suit at the High Court arguing that they were not offered the opportunity to correct their errors as stipulated by the CI 94 governing elections.

High Court Judge, Justice Eric Kyei-Baffour ruled that the PPP should be allowed the opportunity to correct their errors.

Not satisfied with this ruling, the EC proceeded to the Supreme Court for intepretation.

However, the Apex Court enforced the ruling and asked the EC to reopen nominations and ask all the disqualified aspirants to file once more.

The EC after the implementation of the decision of the Supreme Court accepted the nominations of three additional aspirants including Dr Nduom, Nana Konadu Agyeman Rawlings of the NDP and Dr Edward Mahama of the PNC.

When the EC finally announced the admission of the PPP’s forms, Dr Nduom and his campaign team decided to celebrate their victory with the popping of champagnes.
