Deputy Volta Regional Secretary for the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Mustapha Bandi has blamed the poor performance of the party in the last election on the greed among party executives.
According to him, during the 2016 December elections, the party’s national chairman and leader, Kofi Portuphy did not believe in working in one accord with the party executives; whiles the national executive committees allegedly ‘out of greed’, through the 2016 electioneering sabotaged themselves whenever they reported to the office of the president.
“We talked about it. The national chairman didn’t believe in working with unison. He believed that he has to work in himself. He didn’t believe in the executives. The party wasn’t united even the national executives committee weren’t united…,”
“Groups sabotaged other groups whenever they visited the office of the president. They were fundamental mistakes of greed that caused the NDC party. We should go back to the drawing board and think of coming back…” he disclosed.
Over the week, some NDC activists from the bottom of their heart, labeled without restrictions the reasons they think the NDC party lost the elections to the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
With this, some members have called on the others to refrain from such acts since it doesn’t but add more fire to the peace and harmony in the party to fight back in power.
According to the Volta Regional Secretary, it is not right for the party executives to play the blame game.
The national chairman Mr Portuphy, he said, should show the direction for the way forward than await the response of the Dr Botchwey-led committee to officially declare the way forward.
He added that Dr Kwesi Botchwey and his team are mere investigative delegates hence the reason he believes they can’t fix the mistakes but rather the top members should focus an internal cleaning.
He noted that every member playing their respective roles without envy or hatred will help the party to strongly bounce back.
.“The national chairman should show direction in the party. Dr Kwesi Botchwey can’t do all the work. How we manage them is what will give us good results. The logistic is to focus. I know the NDC will bounce back stronger. There must be an internal cleaning. The very day that we will play our roles the party will be better..,”
“My national chairman is not in charge; Mr Portuphy was the chairman of the party. The party HQ wasn’t united. It is not the right of the executives to play the blame game. We should take the responsibilities. The Kwesi Botchwey team can’t fix the mistakes. It’s just an investigating team. The extent that one party member does not like the other does affect the work. If we don’t engage the people to go back to us we would still remain in the opposition…” he said on Neat FM Monday.
