Kintampo waterfalls disaster: Bereaved families to received GH¢2000

Families who lost their loved ones in the Kintampo waterfalls disaster will each receive GH¢2000.

Those injured and are currently in hospital will also receive GH¢1000 and medical bills would be paid by government.

BrongAhafo Regional Minister, KwakuAsomahKyeremeh announced this after Vice President, Dr. MahamuduBawumia and Minister for Tourism, Catherine Afeku visited the bereaved families to commiserate with them.

He also revealed that, government will pay all the medical bills of the victims and also support the families of the deceased organize a befitting burial for their loved ones.

The unfortunate incident which occurred on Sunday March 19, 2017 resulted in the tragic death of 21 revelers

The deceased were mainly students from the Wenchi Methodist Senior High School in the region who had gone to the Kintampo Water Fall on excursion last Sunday.

Witnesses have explained that after a downpour, strong winds buffeted a tree until it came crashing on the students, some of whom were taking instructions from a teacher to take shelter.

Out of 11 others who sustained varying degrees of injuries eight of them are on admission at the Techiman Municipal Hospital while the three others have been rushed to Kumasi for special care.

Based on this backdrop, the Regional Minister is appealing for calm while government work around the clock to unravel the mystery behind the bizarre incident.

Describing the death toll as unfortunate, Mr. AsomahKyeremeh pledged government’s support for families.
