Fifteen students from the Wenchi Methodist Senior High School are among the dead in the tragic accident that occurred at the Kintampo Water Falls.
Headmaster of the school, Foster Boateng confirmed on Adom FM’s Morning Show, ‘Dwaso Nsem’ Monday that the students which included six to seven ladies were part of a team of students from the SHS who embarked on an educational trip to the water fall.
The students, he said are mainly first and second year students. Third year students, he said could not join the educational trip which started from Paga in the Upper East Region because they have commenced their West African Senior High School Examination (WASSCE).
The students, he said were accompanied on the educational trip by three tears.
Tragedy struck on Sunday Evening when trees that has formed a canopy around the three-tier water fall collapsed on the students after a windstorm.
Eighteen persons have so far been confirmed dead in the tragedy.
The dead are said to include students from the University of Renewable Natural Resources and the Wenchi Methodist Senior High School.
Footages emerging from the scene shows security personnel assisted by civilians packing the lifeless bodies unto pickup trucks.
Parents have started arriving at Kintampo to identify the dead.
Twenty persons are still on admission at the Kintampo hospital, Adom FM’s Wiafe Akenten reported.
