Ameri-Deal: CID’s raid at Kwabena Donkor’s house ‘harsh’ – Ahmed Ibrahim

-

First Deputy Minority Whip, Ahmed Ibrahim has lambasted the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service for punitively breaking into the former Minister of Power, Dr Kwabena Donkor’s house to search his belongings.
Criminal Investigations Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service led by an Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) on Monday dawn stormed the Spintex residence of former Minister of Power, Dr Kwabena Donkor, to search his property in connection with investigations into the controversial AMERI deal.
The Mahama administration, in the heat of the ‘Dumsor’ crisis in 2015, entered into a $510million deal with AMERI for the supply of power plants to mitigate the power crisis.
The then-opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) as well as Civil Society Organizations such as IMANI and Africa Centre for Energy Policy (ACEP) criticized the deal saying the government could have gone for the same deal at almost half the price.
But Member of Parliament (MP) for Banda, Mr Ahmed Ibrahim hasn’t taken the matter lightly since he believes Mr Donkor has nothing to hide from the incumbent party in power.
According to him, Mr Donkor has come out unequivocally to challenge the New Patriotic Party (NPP) or any political body to court if they strongly suggest the AMERI-Deal was fishy.
He added that, the NPP party even in opposition last year made matters clear, in their respective Press Conferences, on investigating this Ameri-Deal should they become incumbent.
With this, he believes if the former Minister of Power, Mr Donkor wanted to conceal documents with regards to the deal, he would have longtime ago.
“Is this his reward for serving the state earlier? He was sleeping. Isis is not even fought this way? Do we go by this style? Even when you are chasing terrorist is this how it is done…” he queried.
“Ever since this Ameri deal came? They [NPP] made it clear when they come they will investigate. They claim they have been to Dubai and all. They have made a press conference on the issue. There is nothing to hide. He has already challenged them to court so why this way of entry?…” he quizzed on Accra based Okay FM.
