Some angry supporters of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in Koforidua in the Eastern Region clashed with their regional executives when the party’s election defeat review committee stormed the capital to meet with the party members.
The livid party supporters who mounted road blocks to at the entrance to the meeting hall demanded that the executives of the party in the region should not be allowed to sit in the media with the committee.
The supporters who could not control their anger threw plastic chairs and tables in the hall as part of the protest.
Others also swore by their lives to ensure that they deal severely with the leadership of the party in the region for contributing significantly to the massive defeat of the party in the 2016 elections.
“We are tired of them, they want us to go and stay home for four years and wait for them? That would not happen, wallahi talahi,” an angry supporter said.
The angry supporters also accused the leadership of the party of using monies given them to run the campaign to buy vehicles which are currently working for them and also putting up hostel facilities.
Some of the party executives, they sworn further would be using the ‘stolen’ monies to buy drugs.
The Eastern Regional branch of the NDC during the 2016 campaign promised to deliver an agenda 50-50 in the region.
However, the party dropped from 42% it attained in the 2012 elections to 36.6% in the 2016 elections.
And this drop in percentage, the party supporters said is very annoying especially as the regional executives were given more than enough resources to achieve their much talked about Agenda 50-50.
The NDC attained 44.4% in the national elections and this caused the leadership of the party to set up the Prof Kwesi Botchway committee to investigate the ‘abysmal performance’.
The committee is receiving statements and testimonies through interviews, focus groups, letters, audio recordings, and other forms of information gathering.
The committee has been structured into two groups for purposes of conducting consultations and hearing across the country.
The members include: Rt. Hon. Edward Doe Adjaho, Alhaji Hudu Yahaya, Naval Capt. Asase Gyimah, Mr. Razak Abu. Dr. William Ahadzie. Dr. Ibrahim Zubairu, Mrs. Juliana Azumah-Mensah, Ms. Barbara Serwaa Asamoah.
The parliamentary group includes: Rt. Hon. Alban Bagbin, Second Deputy Speaker, Hon. Haruna Iddrissu-Minority Leader, Hon. Sampson Ahi and Hon. Nii Lante Vanderpuje.
It is expected to complete work ninety days from its commissioning.
