The Member of Parliament (MP) for Effiduase-Asokore in the Ashanti Region deserves to be rewarded with a deputy ministerial position by the President, a communicator of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has said.
According to Agbesi Nutsu, Dr Nana Yaw Ayew Afriyie did a lot of ‘dirty works’ for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to win the 2016 elections and hence think it wise that the President who is noted for rewarding hard work appoints him as a deputy minister.
“When it comes to rewarding hardworking party footsoldiers with appointments, I give President Akufo-Addo A plus…he has been very good with that and I doff my hat for him but the commendation would be complete after he rewards Dr Ayew Afriyie with a deputy ministerial position…he deserves it…,” he said.
According to sharp critic of the President, the NPP MP who is also the President of pressure group, the Alliance for Accountable Governance (AFAG) did a lot of work to ensure that the NPP secured the elections.
Agbesi Nutsu had criticized former President, John Mahama for appointing persons he claimed to have worked behind the scenes to positions during the reign of the NDC.
“When you ask, they say people worked behind the scene, but I ask, which scene? The days of working behind the scene is long gone…,” he had said on Adom FM’s Morning Show, ‘Dwaso Nsem’ on 25 January 2017.
In the case of Dr Ayew Afriyie however, Agbesi Nutsu said the medical doctor worked both behind and in front of the scenes to ensure that the NPP comes to power.
“He organized AFAG very well and their voices could be heard loud and clear on all national issues, demonstrations were organized by them with him leading where necessary. He was at the forefront of championing the cause of the NPP and we all remember him for that…,” he said.
Agbesi further added that the medical doctor also organized his constituency very well and ensured that the NPP won even in Zongos in the constituency and this was a remarkable achievement.
The party’s vote in the presidential elections rose from 23,388 (77.78%) in 2012 to 26,258 (81.98%) in the Presidential elections. In the Parliamentary elections, the votes also rose from 22,900 (76.16%) in 2012 to 26,574 (83.04%).
Commenting on the need to name Dr Nana Yaw Afriyie an appointment in the government, Benjamin Okyere Ankrah, a lecturer at the Central University said the medical doctor deserves appointment as he has been fighting for the party.
“I have always asked myself when I will see Dr Ayew Afriyie’s name, he deserves more than just an MP…this is a hardworking guy…,” he added.
