Concerned Assembly Members in the Awutu-Senya West District of the Central Region have accused erstwhile National Democratic Congress government of squandering GHC 300,000 on a toilet project in the municipality.
According to them, they deserve an explanation why 3 billion old Cedis funded the 32 seat WC Toilet facility with 10 bath houses at the expense of the Awutu Senya assembly.
Spoke person of the Assembly members in the district, Osumanu Alhassan Pinto who disvlosed this to Adom News’ Kofi Adjei indicated that they were surprised and utterly shocked when they received the documents attached to the project.
“The department should explain why it got to 3 billion Ghana Cedis. We aren’t quantity surveyors. From a layman’s point of view we can’t explain why it got to that amount.
“If I were using my money to build it I don’t think it will get to the amount. It is funny it has to cost the assembly that much. Regardless the constructor has to be paid or he can take the issue to court. This is the liability period. 3 billion Cedis for 32 WC’s and 10 bathrooms. It’s hard for us to understand…” he cried.
Meanwhile, he further revealed that the assembly already owed contractors on record an amount of 55 billion old Cedis together with an amount of 2 billion old Cedis for a 3 unit classroom block in the municipality.
With this, they have decided to request an explanation from the government to prove with documents the processes that led to the debts.
Meanwhile the former District Chief Executive of Awutu Senya West District, Samson Abbey Armah when contacted failed to comment on the matter claiming they have commenced investigations into the issue.
