Ecobank Foundation has donated items and cash to the tune of GHC196,940 to a number of needy organizations and medical students as part of its annual Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) activities.
Beneficiaries of the donation include Children’s Heart Foundation, GHC60,900 as funding for two (2) children to undergo heart surgery. Indeed over the past 15 years, Ecobank has paid for such surgeries for at least 17 children, out of which 16 were successful and are doing well.
Ecobank Foundation also gave GHC40,000 worth of glucose test trips to the National Diabetes Association (NDA). In 2016 Ecobank supported the NDA in providing free diabetes screening and also creating awareness of the management of diabetics; the exercise reached over 100,000 people in Accra and Eastern region.
Malaria Control Program in Ghana also got GHC28,000 worth of mosquito nets, which is in line with Ecobank Foundation’s partnership with the Global Fund for Malaria over the years in the fight to end malaria.
The Foundation also donated GHC16,000 to the Village of Hope Orphanage School, specifically for the third term fees of 15 SHS students from that village.
Ecobank Ghana Managing Director, Dan Sackey noted that Ecobank had, over the last 15 years of its relationship with the Village of Hope, built an administration block for the school, donated a bus and refurbished other facilities.
“Also Twenty nine (29) children of the school have been or are being supported financially through SHS, out of which 5 are now university graduates, one of whom is currently employed as a teacher at a school in East Legon, whilst the remaining 4 are fresh graduates yet to enter the Job market,” he added.
Meanwhile, some 30 medical students also got $400 each to meet part of the cost of their Exchange program. The money was presented to them through our Ecobank Visa prepaid Cards.
Dan Sackey noted that Ecobank continues to focus its CSR activities strategically on promoting national development in the area of health, education, and financial Inclusion, as demonstrated in the beneficiaries of this year’s donations.
“These projects, being funded today, will impact our nation positively, by reducing poverty and improving education and health in line with our corporate vision,” he said.
The Ecobank Ghana Boss took the opportunity to encourage the beneficiaries to also find ways of paying back to society as they benefit from Ecobank’s example, and also urged other corporate organizations to pay serious attention to their CSR programmes, by giving back to their communities.
