GHC1.56b for presidency won’t be used for ‘pampers, hampers’ – NPP elder

-

A member of the Council of Elders of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), George Ayisi Boateng, has told critics of the Akufo-Addo government that the GHC1.5 billion budgetary allocation to the presidency will be used judiciously.

Many Ghanaians, including the minority members of parliament have criticised the government for allocating a total of GHC1.56 billion to the office of the president for its operations, provision of goods and services and other capital expenditure.

The amount which was contained in the 2017 budget presented to parliament on March 2, will also fund the six newly created ministries which will operate under the office of the president.

But responding to critics on Monday on Accra-based Onua FM, Mr Ayisi Boateng urged Ghanaians to be patient with President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, especially on his decisions.

He said: “We will not use the money for pampers and hampers. We shall not use it for khebabs and tea.”

Mr Ayisi Boateng said Nana Akufo-Addo’s government which has promised to protect the public purse will be accountable to the people, saying “by the end of the year, we shall see probity and accountability. I don’t believe in political equalization and Nana Addo will protect the public purse”.

According to him, “Nana Addo has good intensions for the country” and that his governance will bring out the difference between the New Patriotic Party and the National Democratic Congress.
