A Kumasi High Court has dismissed a petition by the National Democratic Congress (NDC) challenging the 2024 election results of three parliamentary seats in the Ashanti Region, ruling in favor of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
The NDC filed petitions contesting the outcomes in the parliamentary elections in the Ahafo Ano South-West, Obuasi East, and Ahafo Ano North constituencies.
The party claimed its candidates had rightfully won the seats despite official re-counts and the subsequent swearing-in of the NPP Members of Parliament.
Counsel for the NPP MPs, Clement Opoku Gyamfi argued that the NDC failed to comply with procedural requirements, specifically not applying for the determination of security for costs within 21 days after the election results were gazetted, as required by law.
“Two High Court judges, one from High Court 2 and another from High Court 6, have unanimously ruled that the NDC petition is invalid and dismissed it,” he said.
He said the NDC has no case and has ordered the three MPs to remain in Parliament to represent their constituencies.
