Energy Ministry denies return of ‘dumsor’ attributes power outages to localised faults

The Public Relations Officer for the Ministry of Energy and Green Transition, Isaac Agyei Kwakye, has refuted claims that frequent power outages (dumsor) have returned.

He attributed recent outages to isolated technical faults rather than generation challenges.

His comments come in response to mounting public complaints over unstable power supply across parts of the country.

Speaking on Channel One TV on Monday, April 28, Mr. Kwakye emphasized that the recent power interruptions are not part of a widespread crisis but are localized issues, primarily caused by faulty cables.

“There is no ‘dumsor’. There is nothing like ‘dumsor’, and ‘dumsor’ is not back,” he stated.

“There have been isolated cases. I stay in Madina, Accra, and I can’t remember the last time I slept in the dark. That tells you that the cables there are intact.”

He pointed to incidents like the recent outages at Coco Beach and parts of Nungua, noting that such cases were specific and not linked to generation shortfalls.

“If the cable is faulty, then certainly it has to be worked on. This is different from a systemic generation problem,” he explained.

Mr. Kwakye further assured that the Ministry is actively working with stakeholders to maintain a stable power supply and quickly address technical faults when they arise.
