Otto Addo inspires Black Satellites ahead of U-20 AFCON

-

Black Stars head coach Otto Addo has expressed confidence in the Black Satellites’ ability to beat any opposition at the upcoming U-20 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

The four-time champions have been drawn into a competitive Group C alongside Senegal, DR Congo, and the Central African Republic for the tournament in Egypt.

Addressing the team before their departure, Addo urged the players to remain disciplined and give their all.

“Everybody’s looking up to you to give everything. I know that you have what it takes to beat every team,” the 49-year-old said.

“You have a good staff around you, a good coach. So, anything is possible. You have to believe in yourself. We’ll pray for you, and I know you’ll do it.”

Acknowledging the challenge ahead, Addo encouraged the players to remain focused and committed.

“I know it’s going to be tough. Everyone knows it’s not easy. You have tough opponents, but believe in yourself, listen to your coaches, and then you’ll fulfil everything,” he added.

Ghana is chasing a record fifth continental title, having previously won the U-20 AFCON in 1993, 1999, 2009, and 2021.

The Black Satellites also hold the distinction of being the only African team to win the FIFA U-20 World Cup, a historic achievement secured in Egypt in 2009.

The 2025 U-20 AFCON runs from April 27 to May 18. The four semi-finalists will qualify to represent Africa at the FIFA U-20 World Cup in Chile later this year.
