Kotoko players are too comfortable – Zito

Newly appointed interim head coach of Asante Kotoko, Abdul Karim Zito, has highlighted player complacency as a significant issue undermining the team’s performance.

Speaking at his official unveiling on Wednesday, the former Dreams FC boss shared his candid observations after taking over from Prosper Narteh Ogum.

“We met the players and saw their predicament—so many problems. We went to the clubhouse, and I saw that they feel too comfortable,” Zito said.

Reflecting on his past coaching experiences, he added, “I don’t know Hearts of Oak, but I know Dreams FC. Sometimes, human beings feel so comfortable that they forget their target in life.”

He emphasized the importance of psychological insight in football management, stating, “So, it’s not just a problem on the field of play, and that’s why, as a coach, you need to study psychology.”

Zito now faces the task of reigniting the Porcupine Warriors’ season, aiming to guide the club up the league table and contend for trophies.

Despite their league struggles, Kotoko remain hopeful of silverware, having secured a place in the FA Cup semi-finals.

The new coach’s tenure begins with a pivotal test on Sunday, as Asante Kotoko host Aduana FC in a crucial Matchday 29 clash at the Baba Yara Stadium.
