Minister for Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has urged member states of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) to recommit to the bloc’s founding ideals as it celebrates its 50th anniversary.
Speaking at the official launch of the anniversary celebrations at the Accra International Conference Centre on Tuesday, April 22, Ablakwa emphasized the need for unity, resilience, and forward-thinking leadership within the regional body.
“It is time to reaffirm our unwavering commitment to the ideals upon which this Community was founded,” he stated.
“The next chapter of ECOWAS must build on the legacy of the past while boldly embracing the future.”
He called on member states to strengthen efforts in consolidating peace and security, deepening economic and political integration, and promoting inclusive growth that reaches all citizens across the sub-region.
