Young woman dies, over 200 structures saved in Madina Redco fire

-

A late-night fire on Good Friday has claimed the life of a young woman and left more than 150 structures destroyed near the Madina Redco flats in Accra.

The fire, which broke out around 11:15 p.m., engulfed 140 wooden and 20 metal structures that were being used for both commercial and residential purposes.

Firefighters from the Madina Fire Station responded swiftly, arriving on the scene just two minutes after the emergency call.

They were later joined by teams from Adenta, Legon, Abelemkpe, and the Headquarters to battle the blaze.

Despite arriving to find the fire fully developed, firefighters managed to confine it by 12:02 a.m. and brought it under complete control at 2:22 a.m.

Tragically, a young Nigerian woman identified only as Beauty, believed to be in her early twenties, was trapped in the flames and lost her life.

Her charred remains have since been handed over to the Madina Police for preservation and further investigation.

The swift action of the Ghana National Fire Service prevented even greater devastation, successfully salvaging over 200 nearby structures, including the Redco flats.

The cause of the fire is yet to be determined, as investigations are currently underway.
