Member of Parliament for Weija-Gbawe, Jerry Ahmed Shaib, is calling for swift intervention from the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG), Ghana Grid Company Limited (GRIDCo), and the Ministry of Energy to resolve persistent power outages disrupting life in the constituency.
In a statement issued on Friday, April 17, the MP expressed deep frustration over the unannounced blackouts—commonly referred to as dumsor—which, he said, have plagued the area for months.
“These unplanned outages occur without prior notice or communication from ECG or GRIDCo, causing widespread disruption to households, healthcare centres, schools, and businesses,” he stated.
Ahmed Shaib warned that the erratic power supply is not only crippling economic activity but also endangering lives and stalling essential services in the constituency.
While acknowledging the broader national power challenges, he stressed that Weija-Gbawe has been particularly hard hit, with some communities enduring outages lasting more than four days.
“Despite several engagements with ECG officials and assurances of intervention from GRIDCo, the situation remains unchanged. Residents continue to suffer,” he added.
The MP urged stakeholders to adopt a “respectful but firm” approach in resolving the crisis, insisting that the people of Weija-Gbawe deserve consistent and reliable electricity.
