A former member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr. Richard Amoako Baah, has called on former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to apologise to Ghanaians for what he describes as his poor handling of the economy during his time in office.
Speaking in an interview on Adom FM’s morning show Dwaso Nsem, Dr. Amoako Baah said the former president must admit he failed the country and offer an unqualified apology.
“When Nana Addo was about to become president, he knew the country wasn’t like this. But look at the mess he created. He destroyed the economy, and the right thing for him to do now is to apologise to the people of Ghana,” he stated.
The political scientist stressed that he has made this point before and stands firmly by it.
According to him, Nana Addo’s leadership left the nation worse off and Ghanaians deserve an acknowledgment of this failure.
“I have said it before, and I will repeat it — he must apologise to Ghanaians for the abysmal failure. He knows he didn’t perform well,” Dr. Amoako Baah added.
His comments come in the wake of growing criticism from a section of the public, who blame former President Akufo-Addo for the NPP’s defeat in the 2024 general elections.
A post-election survey conducted by Global Info Analytics revealed that 68% of respondents held Nana Addo responsible for the party’s heavy loss.
Many believe his administration’s poor economic decisions played a major role in the NPP’s electoral defeat.
