Asenso-Boakye dispels claims of neglecting student facing blindness after shooting incident

Member of Parliament for Bantama, Francis Asenso-Boakye, has responded to recent allegations suggesting that he has abandoned Suzzy Penamang, the student who lost her sight after a shooting incident at her school.

In a detailed statement, the minister outlined the various forms of support he has provided to Suzzy and her family since the tragic event.

According to Asenso-Boakye, he intervened immediately after learning about the incident and secured a commitment from the CEO of the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital, Prof. Otchere Addai-Mensah, to personally oversee Suzzy’s treatment.

He further revealed that all medical expenses incurred at the facility were fully covered through arrangements he made, ensuring the family bore no financial burden.

Following a comprehensive medical examination, doctors confirmed Suzzy had suffered severe eye damage and would require advanced medical care abroad.

The minister disclosed that he has been actively assisting the family in securing travel documents and has engaged the Minister for Foreign Affairs, Hon. Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, who has shown readiness to assist once the required documents from the hospital are made available.

His response follows a viral video on social media in which a woman alleged that no support had been offered to Suzzy’s family.

Asenso-Boakye has since clarified that the woman is unknown to the family, as confirmed by Suzzy’s brother, Clement, who has served as the main liaison between the family and the minister.

He called for caution in discussing sensitive issues involving children and urged the public to prioritize Suzzy’s welfare over unverified claims and social media commentary.

Asenso-Boakye reaffirmed his continued commitment to ensuring Suzzy receives the best possible care and support.
