The Kaneshie District Court One has sentenced Gideon Kojo Elliam, 37, to six months in hard labour for defrauding an auto mechanic of GH₵53,000.00.

Elliam took the money from the complainant, Mr. Daniel Odoi Otu, under the pretext of supplying him with an auto diagnostic machine but failed to deliver the equipment.

He admitted to the charge and was sentenced accordingly.

During the trial, Elliam confessed to receiving GH₵37,000.00 from Otu but disputed the complainant’s total claim of GH₵53,000.00.

The Court advised Otu to pursue civil action against Elliam to recover the outstanding amount once the convict serves his sentence.

Presenting the facts, Police Chief Inspector Achana Apeweh told the Court that the complainant, Otu — an auto mechanic residing at Kasoa Nyayano — gave Elliam, an IT technician from Takoradi, GH₵53,000.00 in May 2023 to purchase the auto diagnostic machine.

Elliam promised to deliver the equipment by December 2023 but failed, and all efforts by Otu to reach him proved futile.

Chief Inspector Apeweh said Elliam was later arrested at his hideout on April 1, 2025.

During police investigations, Elliam admitted to using the money for personal purposes. He was subsequently charged and arraigned before the court.
