In support of environmental sustainability and the promotion of responsible mining practices, an initiative has been launched to reclaim degraded lands and restore local ecology.
The first project under this initiative will begin in Konongo, in the Asante Akyem Municipality, where efforts will focus on rehabilitating lands affected by illegal mining through the planting of 3,000 trees.
Speaking at the launch, the Director, Kofi Twum Ampofo Aggrey, announced that the team would begin by planting mahogany and castor oil seedlings as part of the initial phase.
Mr. Aggrey noted that the exercise will be carried out in collaboration with M Enterprise and the Asante Akyem Small Scale Miners Association.
He added that a baseline survey was conducted to assess the specific needs of the local community and to guide future interventions.
The Managing Director of M Enterprise Limited, Sule Iman Mohammed, also emphasized the importance of stronger community engagement to sustain the project’s progress.
The President of the Small Scale Miners Association in Asante Akyem, Alhaji Abdul Mumuni Mahama, pledged their commitment to ensuring the success of the project.
