An Accra Circuit Court has granted bail in the sum of GH¢16,000 with a surety to a dispatch rider accused of defrauding a mechanic under the pretext of securing a container for a shop.
Daniel Ayetey, 38, pleaded not guilty to the charge of defrauding by false pretence.
The court, presided over by Isaac Addo, adjourned the case to May 14, 2025, and instructed the prosecution to ensure full disclosure of evidence before the next hearing.
According to Police Chief Inspector Josephine Lamptey, the complainant, Bright Oduro, a mechanic based in La, had been searching for a container to rent for his wife in February 2025.
During his search, an agent identified as Leonard Dunyo introduced Oduro to Ayetey, who allegedly claimed he had a container available for rent. Both parties settled on a two-year advance payment of GH¢16,000.
The complainant subsequently paid GH¢11,000 to Ayetey and spent an additional GH¢8,000 on renovation materials for the container.
However, the arrangement took an unexpected turn when Ayetey’s aunt, identified as the rightful owner of the container, instructed Oduro to halt the renovation. She also provided documents to confirm her ownership of the property.
Feeling defrauded, the complainant lodged a report with the police, which led to Ayetey’s arrest and prosecution.
