The Ghana Police Service has issued an urgent directive, banning the movement of police personnel and their families to Bawku and its surrounding areas in the Upper East Region.
A wireless message from the Inspector-General of Police, conveyed through the Upper East Regional Police Headquarters, indicates that personnel and their relatives have become targets of unknown assailants in Bawku and its environs.
According to the directive, effective immediately, no police officers or their family members are to travel to Bawku, including areas such as Pusiga and Binduri.
The message stressed that the ban affects both indigenous and non-indigenous personnel.
The IGP further instructed that officers already deployed for operational duties within these high-risk zones must wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPEs) and operate under armoured escort for safety.
Additionally, the communique noted that Garu could also pose significant danger, urging all officers to take note and strictly adhere to the directive.
