Renowned Ghanaian artist Ahmmed Kanneh Larweh, popularly known as Sparqlyn, has earned a nomination for Best Ghanaian Musician of the Year at the prestigious 2025 African Performance Leadership Awards (APLA).

The high-profile event is scheduled for Friday, May 30, 2025, at the luxurious Splendid Hotels on Avenue Kwame Nkrumah in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso.

Organized by the African Performance Leadership Award Committee in collaboration with EYE TV Africa, the APLA Awards celebrate individuals across Africa who have demonstrated exceptional leadership, influence, and contributions in their respective fields.

Sparqlyn’s nomination is in recognition of his outstanding impact on music, culture, and community development.

With a career spanning over two decades, Sparqlyn has cemented his status as a leading figure in Ghana’s creative arts industry. From his early days as a founding member of the acclaimed Hiplife group Dunsin to his successful solo career launched in 2018, he has remained a prominent voice in Hiplife and Afrobeats.

Solo hits like Jump On Me, Your Body, and Tumpa have earned him international recognition and a growing global fan base.

Beyond his musical accomplishments, Sparqlyn also serves as a Development Chief in Manya Krobo under the stool name Nene Kanneh Larweh I, Noryam Matse. In this role, he promotes youth empowerment, cultural preservation, and unity among the Ga-Adangbe people.

He also runs a scholarship scheme that supports brilliant but needy students in the area.

As a traditional leader, Sparqlyn has worked with other high-ranking chiefs and contributed significantly to development initiatives within his community. His contributions were recently recognized in March 2025 by the Musicians Union of Ghana (MUSIGA), which presented him with two plaques and a citation during the Akwaaba Festival for his influence and mentorship of emerging talents.

His nomination for APLA 2025 underscores his legacy as a musician, cultural advocate, and entrepreneur. Sparqlyn also extends his leadership to the real estate sector and youth development programs, positioning him as a symbol of forward-thinking African leadership.

The APLA ceremony will be chaired by His Emperor Majesty, Ambassador Dr. King Nkosinathi Eugene Mahlangu, Bongwe II of the Ndebele Kingdom in South Africa.

The event will also feature keynote addresses on pressing continental issues including climate resilience, terrorism, and corruption, with distinguished speakers such as Dr. Shuaibu Danwakan and Ambassador Dr. Joseph Anthony Carew.

With this latest honor, Sparqlyn continues to raise Ghana’s flag high and inspire the next generation of African artists and leaders.
