Bawku Central Member of Parliament (MP), Mahama Ayariga, has once again condemned the recent violence in the region, which has resulted in fatalities, injuries, and the destruction of his property.
In a statement, the Majority Leader also addressed a smear campaign against him on social media, reaffirming his commitment to peace and urging the public to ignore politically motivated falsehoods.
Ayariga expressed concern about the growing frustration among the youth due to the slow resolution of the ongoing Bawku and Kusaug conflict.
He also acknowledged the concerns about the conduct of certain law enforcement officers, which he described as a source of anger among the youth.
Currently on official duty outside the country, Ayariga sympathized with those affected by the violence and appealed for calm in the community.
“I understand the anger and frustration of the youth about the pace of the resolution of the situation in Bawku and Kusaug and the misconduct of some misguided law enforcement officers,” he said.
Reaffirming his support for the ongoing peace process, Ayariga urged residents of Bawku and Kusaug to stay committed to the mediation efforts being led by Otumfuo Osei Tutu II.
The MP noted that both the Zugran Naaba Asigri Abugrago Azoka II, Overlord of Kusaug, and the Nayiri Naa Bɔhagu Mahami Sheriga, Overlord of Mamprugu, were fully participating in the peace dialogue.
“I want to assure the people of Bawku and Kusaug that I remain resolute and committed to a lasting resolution of the matter according to the well-established laws and judicial decisions of Ghana,” he added.
