Five suspects charged in the murder of a mobile money vendor at Kwadaso in Kumasi have been remanded into prison custody for two weeks.
They include Martin Amoah, alias Baba Macho, Charles Kwame Danso, Philip Fordjour, Samuel Adae Mensah and Mavis Gyasi.
They were charged on three counts of murder, conspiracy to commit murder and robbery.
Police prosecutors pleaded the court to remand them into prison custody for further investigation.
Counsel for the 5th accused, Mavis Gyasi, pleaded for bail for his client, but this was not heeded by the Asokwa District Court.
The presiding judge, Her Worship Amy Bondzie Hanson, remanded them into prison custody for two weeks and adjourned the case to 23rd April 2025.
Kumasi has recorded multiple incidents of robbery and killing of mobile money vendors.
The latest incident involved a 24-year-old vendor, identified as ‘Junior’, who was killed in his one-room apartment at Kwadaso in the Ashanti region.
The deceased, who operated his MoMo business at the Kwadaso Onion Market, was found in a pool of blood in his room on March 20.
The assailants are alleged to have bolted with an undisclosed amount of money.
On February 13, a 27-year-old MoMo vendor, Patricia Nimako, was shot to death in front of her shop at Krofrom in the Ashanti region.
The suspected armed robbers bolted with an amount of GH₵10,000 and mobile phones.
Her mother, Madam Elizabeth Fosuaa, who was at the Asokwa District Court to witness proceedings, demanded justice be served on her daughter as well.
“This case cannot be rendered useless, you cannot kill my daughter and go scot free, why should you engage in such evil,” she said in tears.
